I fell in love with this recipe because it’s a great example of what was to come and the early push away from the heavy cosmetics of the early 18th century to the new, more natural cosmetics and introduction to the new idea of “lotions” of the late 18th century. These lotions would soon overtake the cosmetic world as care of the skin soon became the most important cosmetic a woman could use… and rouge… rouge is also an important historical cosmetic 🙂

With all of the herbs this product contains, it reminds me a bit of “gypsy astringent”, but without the vinegar, which makes it a bit gentler on your skin.

Application: Apply with a cotton ball once or twice a day to cleanse and tone the face. This product is best applied twice a day with our small sponges (found in the shop, see link below) or a cotton ball-no need to wipe or dry off the excess.
