Pomatum is a perfumed ointment used for the hair, face, and skin. It can be a salve made with beeswax and oils, which produces a more stable compound, particularly in the heat and for traveling. It can also be made from a combination of scented waters, fats, and oils.

This recipe was titled ” A Pomatum for Crinkles” It called for the juice of white lily roots, honey, and white wax and make a pomatum from them. Lily has been used throughout history in skincare regiments of the wealthy.

The instructions read, “It fhould be applied every night, and not wiped off till the next morning.”
