Spring Flowers Eau De Toilette Essence for the Handkerchief is a scented water, meaning it does not have the staying power of a perfume, but it smells fantastic, even if it doesn’t last for hours. This is a light scent that will have a minimal lasting effect and is versatile for everyday use!

This beautiful scent is slightly different from the perfume version because it has more water in the formula. Also for the perfume, we stuck to the original recipe, whereas for this version, we added to it to make it a more rounded scent that will appeal to multiple eras of time, using various aspects and ingredients from 14 recipes throughout history for the same scent. The notes will be a little different than the perfume. But it’s still a variation on the extremely popular “Spring Flowers” formulation base. We used recipes spanning from 1850 -1934. So this listing is for the Spring Flowers Eau De Toilette Essence for the Handkerchief, it is a little more watered down, but it smells amazing!!!

What does this smell like?
My good friend, Amber, is hanging out this week, and we were discussing this scent. After applying it, she primarily smelled notes of floral Bulgarian Rose with a hint of powder, and for her, it finished with a vintage musk and notes of bergamot. She also said that she felt like the note on her skin, smelled a lot like Vivian Leigh’s Perfume which was Jean Patou’s – Joy but with a few more forward bergamot notes. She didn’t know it was a handkerchief scent, but she was telling me that, apparently, Vivian Leigh would gift scented handkerchiefs with her iconic Jean Patou – Joy perfume. FUN!!!

On me, this Eau De Toilette is light and airy with a hint of spice. It’s akin to walking in a meadow of wildflowers. This perfume is not as complex in notes. It’s bright with roses, violets, bergamot, and underlying notes of cassia with vanilla and bits of Benzoin mixed in. For me, this perfume falls into the soft oriental floral and green note category. Keep in mind that everyone will smell different notes, and you may get something completely different than me. But I really love this scent. It’s the perfect everyday wear scent that isn’t too powdery ( on me) but has a lovely balance of spring flowers. As it dried down, it remindes me of a lovely spring wild bouquet.

Why is it for the handkerchief? It’s actually pretty versatile because we chose the receipt option to make it into water. But historically, perfumes and waters were not applied directly to the clothing or skin because a person did not want to risk staining or soiling clothing, which was expensive and labor-intensive to make. If one would apply to the skin, the same concept is warranted. With skin oils and scents, they did not want it transferred to the clothing. This would help keep the clothes clean. Instead, they would scent handkerchiefs, which could be used in many ways to cover the nose, mouth or even just to give off a pleasant scent.
