So many of the cosmetic ads of the 1890s spoke about complexions and soft skin. A typical 1893 ad would read something like this: ” This powder is cooling, refreshing, cleanly, healthy, and harmless with the most delicate and desirable protection to the face during hot weather. Our powder is refreshing and used- to prevent chafing and sunburn and to lessen perspiration. There is no complexion powder as beautiful or as safe as the Facial Powder of the Fairies Complexion Powder.”

For this recipe, we took out the talc and replaced it with rice powder which is equally as historically correct. Other than that, this is the exact recipe. The original name was: Facial Powder Of The Fairy’s: – We had the original label for quite a while. This original recipe facial complexion powder from 1893 will become a fast favorite. The overall look in the Victorian era of 1893 was smooth skin. This powder smells fresh and will give you that lovely clear complexion, but it can also be transparent, depending on how you use it.

The powder has a lovely translucent pearlesque smooth look to it. Putting it on and buffing it in won’t make your face extremely pale for general skin tones, but it will give it a pearlesque finish with a lovely fresh scent of Bergamot.
