Few plastics can boast such a long pedigree as cellulose acetate, made entirely from renewable resources. The cool thing about this comb is that it’s even patterned after the Tortoise shell look that was popular in the 19th and 20th centuries.

By the 1890s, acetate was the cool new thing on the market, and it was expensive. It was often used for combs and hair accessories. By the 1930s, we see it being used for glass frames and so much more.

Here is a bit about the history of Cellouse Acetate from plastiquarian.com. “Cellulose Acetate plastics are tough with deep gloss and high transparency. They possess a ‘feel’ which is different from other plastics and is often described as more ‘natural.’ This may explain why Cellouse Acetate has retained its popularity for making items that are handled frequently, such as spectacle frames… It was first prepared in 1865 by the French chemist Paul Schützenberger, and by 1894 the first industrial process for its manufacture was patented in the UK by Charles Cross and Edward Bevan. In 1904 George Miles, an American chemist, discovered that if the polymer was partially hydrolyzed, it became soluble in acetone.”

Our cellulose acetate comb is made from natural and renewable materials, offering an eco-friendly solution for hair care.
