Soft Pomatum:
We have been promising soft pomatums in the shop for quite some time. For your consideration, this lovely soft pomade is scented with flowers. It smells amazing- like a light wildflower bouquet in summer. If you haven’t used soft pomatum yet – give it a try.

Soft pomatum is great for your initial powdering and pomading. You can then use your hard pomatum to help style. Again a little will go a long way. According to a 1780 book on hairstyling they say:

“The Hair thus parted…lay a good deal of powder in it, and comb it well thro’ opening the hair in layers as you put in the powder. Then take the Soft Pomatum and do the same, combing it from Root to point as you put it in… Take more powder and comb it in… until you find it ( the hair) sufficiently filled.”

Let me paraphrase: You should powder your hair, brush it, and then apply the soft pomatum and powder and brush again. They do say if you put the pomatum in the hair first without the powder, it will be unequally powdered. I have had this happen before ( see my video on Making Hairpieces) – but you just need to be sure to brush and combine the powder and pomatum really well so this doesn’t happen. Then they continue to say: You are to repeat until you are happy with things.

Note: Powder and pomatum work best with a wooden or bone comb and a boar bristle brush. We will be carrying them in the shop Soon!

Please Note: With this being a soft pomatum- it will melt a lot easier in hot weather. We put it in a leak-proof glass container for you- but it will not be as firm and melt-proof as well as the hard pomade. Once it cools back down, it will firm up again. There is NO Bees Wax in this pomatum.
