This awesome Blue Color was made popular by the 18th Century English Politician Charles Fox (1749 –1806). He powdered his hair blue, and others followed. He was a prominent British Whig statesman. His parliamentary career spanned thirty-eight years during the 18th- 19th centuries.

This is a recipe that I came up with after learning about Charles Fox, checking out some awesome historical paintings, and researching recipes. I could not find a specific blue power recipe, so I combined historical recipes and other available ingredients that were around in the 18th century. UltraMarine became really popular in the late 18th century, but it was very expensive, so it was a pigment that was limited to the wealthy. It was the pigment often reserved to paint the mantel of the Virgin Mary. Starch and Orris Root were popular ingredients for powers. This hair powder is not scented because the Orris Root has a “violet” smell to it. Our UltraMarine is approved for general cosmetics and eyes.
It is really easy to put on (I sprinkled it on and rubbed it in). You can use a wig powderer or shaker…. Compared to the other hair powders we carry; this is a little different. It is a bit more “dusty”. It will set with a hairspray.
It does NOT stain my hands, but it gets them pretty dirty – use gloves- This will wash out well with regular shampoo. My hair color is auburn with red right now, and the powder-coverage is fine. The hair powder shows different shades in the photos, depending on the light.
