Original Directions: “Apply in the morning and again in the evening for three months to the parts in which you want abundant and luxurious hair. This oil also beautifies and promotes shine.”
As the ideology of hygiene changed in the Regency period, the care of the hair did as well. Hair Oils to make the hair thick and shiny became popular. Today we associate shiny with greasy, but historically, it was a different story. Shiny hair was healthy hair, and what we may associate with being a bit greasy was nothing more than healthy. Even back then, there was a difference between clean and dirty hair. We still see recipes here and there for hair powders, even though they were in decline. Check out our Maréchal powder, but these were now only used to control the dirt and excess amount of grease. You could rarely tell women were wearing hair oil.
I liked this recipe because it gave directions to be applied in the morning and evening for 3 months to obtain abundant beautiful shiny hair.

What I find fascinating about these original recipes is the amount of knowledge already known about natural herbs and oils. This is what we are here to bring back, and this is a great example. We have so much misinformation about the products that our ancestors used, hopefully, after you get acquainted with our shop, you will be thrilled to finally know the real answer and be able to help give another side of the story.
So give this hair oil a try. If you have dry skin, try using it on your skin as well… Historical recipes were not cut and dry. Many were multi-use and multi-beneficial.
