The quest for elegant, office-friendly winter attire can often feel like an uphill battle. You aim to strike a balance between style, warmth and comfort – a goal that’s easier set than achieved.
Most cozy winter garments aren’t typically suited for a formal work setting, while dressy, office-appropriate attire often lacks the necessary warmth for harsh winter weather. On top of that, stylish clothes aren’t always suitable for the workplace. Moreover, it seems that most winter work fashion inspirations are designed with milder winters in mind, with temperatures in the 40s and 50s. However, in regions like the Midwest and numerous others, winter can be much more severe. While the winter business casual styles I’m suggesting might not suffice for sub-zero wind chills, they should serve you well for freezing and slightly sub-freezing conditions.
One issue I’ve noticed with my preferred winter business casual style inspirations is the scarcity of color. It’s perplexing why so many shy away from incorporating color into their outfits. Granted, not everyone may be inclined towards neon yellow or vibrant magenta. But there’s absolutely no harm in introducing a splash of bright green or blue, particularly on a dull winter day. A pair of colorful shoes or a striking accessory can make a significant difference. In the retail selections I’ve included at the end of this post, I’ve tried to incorporate a variety of both neutral and colorful items.
