This original recipe is so unique that we had to reproduce it. In a time when most products were still unisex, we found this pomade recipe in a gentleman’s magazine, specifically advertising it for the Gents. For the time frame, this is unique. Plus, it smells amazing!!
Made from a blend of olive oil, jojoba, bergamot, and elderflower, this all-natural, unisex formula softens and styles with a touch of old-world elegance. Whether you’re channeling a vintage vibe or just looking for a nourishing hair treatment, this pomade brings the past into the present, at a price that’s too good to pass up. In the 1860s, men’s hairstyles were more about neat, slicked-back looks, with the hair often combed smoothly away from the face. The most common styles included short to medium-length hair, frequently parted to the side, and sometimes slightly curled or waved at the ends.
A pomade like this one would have been used to accomplish just that. Helping to keep hair in place, creating that smooth, shiny, and polished appearance.
To Apply:
Pomades like this were often packaged in similar bottles and were meant to be warmed in the hands or melted with heat before application. Once applied, comb through for a sleek, controlled, and glossy finish without being overly greasy. To use, warm the product in your hands or gently rub the bottle between your palms. Once warmed, apply a small amount to damp or dry hair, working it through for a smooth, polished look. This pomade is ideal for achieving a light, natural hold that won’t leave your hair stiff but allows it to move easily.
Whether channeling vintage charm or simply seeking a nourishing way to style your hair, this pomade is perfect for both men and women. It’s all-natural, affordable, and adds a touch of history to your modern routine.

Think of this as a Brillantine. It will give a sleek, shiny appearance, plus, did I mention how amazing it smells?
I have been searching for a few years to find an original pomatum just meant for gentlemen. It was hard because almost all pomades, historically, were unisex so I can’t tell you how wonderfully happy I am to bring this to you! It’s an original recipe from 1861. It has a wonderful “Gent” scent with elderflower and bergamot, to name a few notes. Remember, this is a soft pomatum so there is no wax. In fact, it may need to be stirred occasionally. It is an all-natural and historically accurate product. We don’t add any emulsifiers – so things may separate, but just give a good stir, and you can always put it in the fridge to firm it up.
If you’re seeking an authentic Civil War or Victorian Pomade for your dashing gent, this is the one. Its historical authenticity is unmatched, and a little goes a long way.
According to the 1861 directions: ” The best way to liquify the pomatum is to set the bottle in a saucepan of warm water.” Feel free to use the historical directions. Otherwise, an easier method is to take a little bit and rub it in your fingers to hand to melt, then apply to the hair ( Damp or Dry). It’s very soft already.
