We are so excited to be bringing you original recipes from the 1930s. This dry shampoo is an original recipe from 1933, and it’s fantastic. Unlike hair powder- this is meant to be brushed out. This can take care of a lot of grease, but also there is a limit! If you apply it in, let it sit, and brush it out, it will help remove some of the grease.
I think a lot of people assume that Hair Powder died out in the 18th century. But that is not the case. We made a video on your Youtube channel if you are interested in how hair powder changed into dry shampoo. Dry Shampoo has been in every century. Sometimes it’s colored, and sometimes it’s not. This recipe is natural coloring, so it’s great for blonds, but those with dark hair can use it too ( it may lighten your hair temporarily because it’s not colored). Also, this is meant to be put in rubbed into the scalp, left on for 10 minutes, and then brushed out, preferably with a boar bristle brush or comb as per the original instructions. This is a wonderful way to keep your hair healthy (overwashing is not a good practice- dry shampoo is)
Check out the original directions:
“Apply and rub vigorously into the roots of the hair. Leave on for 10 minutes. Rub the scalp again and shake the excess off. The hair must be then be brushed with a stiff-bristled brush until every trace of shampoo has vanished.”
NOTE: Some people can be allergic to Orris Root. You can always ask us if we have samples of this if you would like to try it out. Sometimes we do, and sometimes we don’t.
